Director Of Engineering

As the Director of Engineering at MyPass, you will be a key leadership figure responsible for driving the technical vision, strategy, and execution of our Platform development.
You will lead a talented engineering team, foster innovation, and ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions aligned to the product roadmap and the strategic product vision.
As a pivotal member of the executive team, your primary goal is to scale and optimise our engineering function to support the company's growth and maintain a culture of excellence in technology.
This position will be based in our Sydney office.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy:
Provide strategic leadership for the engineering department, aligning technical strategies with overall business goals.
Develop and communicate a clear technical vision and technical roadmap that augments the product roadmap and strategy for the Platform.
Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing engineering team, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture, driving accountability in delivering to desired schedule and quality outcomes.
Drive talent acquisition, development, and retention strategies to build and maintain a skilled and motivated team.
Manage the resourcing allocations to various engineering projects to meet strategic business objectives and/or desired product release schedules.
Product Alignment:
Support the strategic product vision, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of engineering solutions.
Collaborate with product management to define and prioritise features and enhancements and develop appropriate product release strategies.
Technology Stack and Architecture:
Define and maintain the technology stack and architectural guidelines, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security of the Platform.
Ensure comprehensive technical documentation is maintained and updated as required.
Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements to guide technology decisions.
Agile Development Practices:
Implement and optimise Agile development methodologies and processes to enhance team efficiency and product delivery.
Quality Assurance and Testing:
Establish and maintain robust quality assurance practices to ensure the delivery of bug-free, reliable software.
Implement automated testing strategies to improve development speed and product stability.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
Collaborate closely with product management, design, sales, operations, support, and customer success teams to align engineering efforts with business objectives.
Foster a culture of cross-functional collaboration and communication.
Scalability and Performance:
Architect systems for scalability, ensuring the ability to handle increased user loads and data volumes.
Monitor and optimise system performance to deliver a seamless user experience.
Innovation and Research:
Encourage a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
Conduct research on emerging technologies and assess their potential impact on the company's products.
Manage any government-funded R&D processes, ensuring that appropriate documentation and reporting is available for any R&D incentives and claims annually.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the engineering budget, optimising resource allocation to meet business goals efficiently.
Incident Management:
Develop, implement and communicate appropriate incident management policies and procedures to meet contracted Service Levels for customers.
Service Delivery Management:
Build appropriate processes, awareness and support in the Engineering team to ensure that customer service levels are adhered to at all times.
Key Requirements
Proven experience in a leadership role within a SaaS product development environment.
Demonstrated success in leading and scaling engineering teams.
Strong technical background with expertise in relevant technologies and programming languages.
Experience in architecting and designing scalable, distributed systems.
Excellent leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
Ability to inspire and motivate team members toward common goals.
Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to align technical initiatives with business objectives.
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and build strong working relationships.
Extensive experience implementing and optimising Agile development methodologies.
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
