Due to Navantia Australia's ongoing success in delivering specialised Engineering Services to the Royal Australian Navy, we are growing considerably and have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Software Engineering and Applications to join in our Sydney offices.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a successful multi-disciplined team and work alongside industry leaders.
In this role you will:
Lead and mentor internal software engineering teams and contractors, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
Initiate and lead the development portion of the R&D projects into commercial-ready products.
Support the strategy for the development of R&D products, including software deliverables.
Develop the software development process and provide technical viability expert advice related to R&D initiatives covering simulation, algorithms, optimisation, and artificial intelligence.
Communicate with stakeholders to ensure the end products or processes will result in a solution that meets customer needs.
Monitor and keep up to date with the latest best practices in moving innovation and R&D projects into production.
Develop and implement software engineering strategies for product development and application management in line with organizational objectives.
Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of software applications, including SAP and specialized engineering tools.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align software solutions with business and product needs.
Ensure the use of best practices in software development, testing, and deployment.
As the ideal candidate, you will have:
Demonstrated industry experience in moving proof-of-concept digital technology projects such as projects in artificial intelligence and autonomous systems into commercial products.
Experience in leading teams that manage and support business applications.
Supervision of software engineers working in an Agile environment.
Qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields with a strong maths or physics background.
Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously using initiative, sound reasoning, listening, and decision-making skills.
Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships at all levels of the business and clients.
Strong time management skills and ability to deliver results in a high-pressure environment.
