Aspect Personnel has partnered with La Trobe City Council to recruit a Principal Statutory Planner to join their team on a permanent basis.
Join a team of Statutory Planners ranging from Principals to graduates.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to step into the coordinator role during their leave.
You will mentor two Band 6 planners and occasionally the Band 5 planners.
You'll work on a variety of complex planning applications, including subdivisions, residential, commercial, industrial, mixed-use developments, multi-unit dwellings, change of use projects, and private school applications.
There will also be opportunities to represent at VCAT.
A can-do attitude, strong work ethic, and teamwork skills are essential.

Principal Statutory Planner Band 7 Permanent role - hybrid working (3 days in the office) $113,565 - $130,000 (Salary and Super) Laptop Provided Experience from either council or private sector accepted 5 plus years' experience in VIC planning Reporting to Coordinator Statutory Planning Band 6 Senior Planner's will be reporting to Principal Planner ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP
Reports to: Coordinator Statutory Planning
Supervises: Senior Statutory Planner or otherwise directed
External Relationships: Developers, Business, Community
KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS
Assess priority planning applications promptly and efficiently, adhering to relevant Acts and policies.
Develop and evaluate development plans, complex planning applications, land information planning certificates, customer inquiries, and other planning-related tasks professionally.
Provide an accurate, efficient, and customer-focused development approvals process for planning, development plans, subdivisions, and liquor license applications, in compliance with relevant Acts and policies, while offering accurate advice to citizens.
Assist in enhancing the development approvals process by meeting performance standards, embracing continuous improvement, and delivering high-quality customer service.
Demonstrate problem-solving and policy development skills using technical expertise related to planning, subdivision, and liquor licensing matters.
Make decisions on all matters within the scope of the position's responsibility, ensuring they are within delegated authority, legislative requirements, established planning and corporate strategies, policies, or recognized standards.
Strive to resolve disputes, issues, or concerns arising from the development approvals process through effective negotiation and ensure they are addressed in a coordinated manner.
Possess a solid understanding of relevant legislation affecting planning, liquor licenses, development plans, development contribution plans, subdivisions, and various related Acts.
Exhibit personal characteristics of being a team player with a broad vision, contributing value through both individual work and the efforts of staff within the area of corporate responsibility.
Demonstrate the ability to find solutions to new situations using technical expertise.
Stay updated on technological advancements and, in consultation with staff, advocate for the adoption of technology that can enhance customer service, productivity, and quality.
Manage time effectively, set priorities, have vision, and possess people management skills, planning and organizing your own work.
This position requires meeting objectives within time constraints, managing conflicting demands, and staying within budget.
Demonstrate the ability to adhere to budgets, policies, and procedures.
Contribute to the team's outputs to align with overall Council objectives, priorities, and team service standards.
Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to ensure a high standard of customer service and public relations.
Work and negotiate effectively with staff from various departments and disciplines to develop solutions and strategies supported by those staff.
Under the direction of the Coordinator of Statutory Planning, represent the Council at panel hearings and hearings of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal as required.
Maintain effective and cooperative communication with community organizations, businesses, neighboring councils, and other government authorities and departments.

Qualifications : Hold a relevant tertiary degree with several years of relevant experience or possess lesser formal qualifications with extensive relevant experience.
Regional Planning Knowledge : Have a solid understanding of regional planning issues.
Driver's License : Possess a current Victorian Driver's License.
