As the Conservation Operations Officer – Fauna, you will work with a small, well-resourced team of like-minded people to implement biodiversity monitoring and research projects across Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) managed protected areas in the Kimberley.

This role will take you by land, sea and air to some of the most breathtaking places in the Kimberley as you work across a network of monitoring sites to evaluate the effectiveness of DBCA terrestrial threat management programs and other related fauna research projects.

The salary ranges from $87,712 - $92,057 p.a.
(with an increase of 5% when the new agreement is registered, 4% on 13 June 2025 and 3.5% in 2026).
There are generous leave and working entitlements such as District Allowance, Flexi-time, Time Off in Lieu, Overtime, Air Conditioning Allowance, Annual Airfare Travel Concession (after 12 months of service), rental subsidy or Home Ownership Subsidy Scheme (subject to availability), and relocation assistance (for eligible applicants).
Additionally, there are ongoing training and development opportunities.

The position is based in Broome, but Kununurra will also be considered.

Our ideal candidate will have:
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with threatening processes and threatened fauna conservation and management in northern Australia.
Demonstrated experience in various fauna survey, monitoring and identification techniques (i.e., live capture, cameras, acoustic recording units).
Demonstrated experience in collecting, collating and analysing data, managing datasets, report and scientific paper writing, and GIS.
Demonstrated experience working in remote locations, working effectively as part of a team and independently, showing high self-motivation and good fitness.
The ability and willingness to work with Traditional Owners to deliver Native Title aspirations and goals through joint management, cooperation, or collaborative arrangements.
Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following five (5) criteria.
These should be addressed in no more than five (5) pages in total.

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience of threatening processes, threatened species conservation and management, with a preference for someone with knowledge of threatened fauna in northern Australia.
Demonstrated experience in a broad range of fauna survey and monitoring techniques (i.e., live capture, cameras, etc.).
Demonstrated experience in collating and analysing data, managing datasets, and using computer skills for report writing, spreadsheets and creating databases, integrated with GIS applications for landscape mapping.
Experience, knowledge, and skills in leading and managing teams in remote locations, working effectively as part of a team and independently; showing a high level of self-motivation, and organising and implementing works programs.
Ability and willingness to work with traditional owners to deliver Native Title aspirations and goals through joint management, cooperation, or collaborative arrangements.
