Security (Information & Communication Technology) Full time The Security Engineer reports to the CIO and is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the cyber security resilience of the ICT infrastructure.
As a Security Engineer, you will configure, manage and deploy Microsoft's cyber security tools.
Further, monitor, identify, investigate, and respond to threats in on-premise and cloud environments using Defender XDR and Microsoft Sentinel.
In this role, you collaborate with the Senior Systems Administrator, Endpoint Administrator, Network security personnel and external consultants to secure ICT systems.
Only candidates experienced with Microsoft's security tools are encouraged to apply for this role.
Key areas of responsibility include: Uplifting the cyber security posture of ICT infrastructure with Microsoft cyber security tools and NIST frameworkResponsible for detecting and responding to cyber threats with Microsoft XDR and Microsoft Sentinel.Configure and manage Microsoft Sentinel.Implement new tools and solutions to secure ICT infrastructure to increase the compliance rate.Monitor and investigate cloud security events and alerts from various sources, such as logs, network traffic, threat intelligence, and user reports.Perform root cause analysis and incident response to contain and remediate incidents.Document and communicate findings, recommendations, and lessons learned to relevant stakeholders and management.Research and stay updated on the latest trends, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) of threat actors.Provide guidance and training to other team members and users on best practices and standards for cyber security.Advising on improvements to threat protection practices.Safeguard Internal and Internet-facing Windows and Linux systems.Perform threat intelligence analysis and threat hunting to uncover hidden or emerging threats in the ICT environment.To be successful in this role you will need to have the following education, experience, and technical knowledge: Experience with deploying and managing Microsoft Sentinel is essentialExperience with deploying and managing Microsoft XDR is essentialProactive threat hunting and remediation experience is essentialExtensive experience in protecting Windows and Linux systems using Azure security cloud servicesDegree in Cyber Security or related field.
Alternatively, considerable experience (5+ years)CISM/CISSP, SC200 and SC300 Certification (Preferred)Strong knowledge of Entra ID cyber security featuresUnderstanding of the MITRE ATT&CK, NIST Framework, Zero Trust and ACSC Essential 8Understanding of Microsoft Purview, exchange onlineUnderstanding of network technology, firewall and IDS/IPSAbout WIMR The Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) is a multi-disciplinary research facility bringing together the brightest minds to deliver real and significant breakthroughs for many of the most serious illnesses, improving health and saving lives in Australia and around the world.
