Auburn Hospital Permanent 0.3FTE Staff Specialist Voluntary Assisted Dying Service – Medical Lead Western Sydney Local Health District CLICK HERE TO APPLY Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD).
The WSLHD Voluntary Assisted Dying Medical Lead is a key role established to lead the WSLHD Voluntary Assisted Dying Service.
This role will provide support to the WSLHD VAD Service team by leading the VAD team, engaging with and training clinical colleagues on VAD, and provide authorised VAD practitioner services as outlined in the legislation.
This will involve travelling across WSLHD to support people who wish to access VAD by acting in the role of a Coordinating, Consulting and/or Administering Practitioner as outlined in the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022.
Successful applicants will: Lead the implementation of VAD clinical guidelines, pharmacy protocols and related documents and contributing to other key VAD implementation deliverables. Present at regular internal and external stakeholder forums. Engage with clinical colleagues about VAD and act as a point of contact for Medical Practitioners within WSLHD, including providing education and training to support VAD implementation. Lead practice development and improvement strategies within the WSLHD VAD Service. Practice as an authorised voluntary assisted dying practitioner in NSW. Essential Requirements for Appointment: Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Complete approved mandatory training to be recognised as an authorised Voluntary Assisted Dying practitioner in NSW. Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Selection Criteria: Sound clinical knowledge in end-of-life care demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position. Consistently demonstrates behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation: Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment. Demonstrated strong communication and teamwork skills as they apply to clinical care and clinical decision making for the provision of VAD services. Sound knowledge of and commitment to clinical quality and patient safety, work health and safety, working within NSW Health Policy and current clinical practice guidelines. Demonstrated good understanding of the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and professional development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education and continuing professional development. Demonstrates a willingness to travel within WSLHD to provide VAD services to people requesting VAD. Working With Children Check: Applicants must provide evidence of a Working with Children Check issued by the Office of Communities Commission for Children and Young People.
