Engineering Manager - Frontend Core Libraries - Remote across ANZ

Our flagship campus is in Sydney.
We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide.
But you have choice in where and how you work; we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What you'd be doing in this role
Lead a cross-functional team to evolve the frontend core libraries that underpin the frontend architecture and experience.
Design the technical and product roadmap for the team in collaboration with stakeholders.
Work with engineering leadership and product foundations teams to design a technical vision for the team.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and ensure seamless integration of frontend libraries.
Ensure the team is happy, healthy, high-functioning, and impactful.
Conduct regular 1:1s to provide technical direction, mentorship, and actionable feedback.
Develop growth plans for engineers on the team.
Set priorities and support coachees with execution.
Refine team processes to ensure effective and sustainable delivery.
You're probably a match if you have
Experience collaborating with other engineering teams to build great solutions.
Strong understanding of first and third party libraries in a large scale organisation.
Experience advocating for goals in a compelling roadmap and vision.
Experience developing rich web applications, ideally using Typescript / React / MobX.
Demonstrated experience leading technical teams from a management or mentoring perspective.
Extensive experience with frontend build tools (Webpack, Rollup, Babel).
Familiarity with testing frameworks (Jest, Enzyme, Cypress).
Strong understanding of web performance optimization techniques.
Experience in developing and maintaining frontend libraries / frameworks.
Practical knowledge of data structures and algorithms.

The Frontend Core Libraries team is dedicated to empowering Canva's 600+ frontend developers by maintaining and enhancing our essential libraries like React and MobX.
Our mission is to ensure that these powerful tools are utilized to their fullest potential.
We are committed to pushing the boundaries of frontend development, providing robust and efficient solutions that enhance user experience.
About the Role / Specialty
Through a combination of mentoring, technical leadership, and coaching, you would be accountable for helping the Frontend Core Libraries team achieve their goals and maintaining an environment where team members can do their best work.
