Joining QCS's Policy and Legal Command as a Principal Advisor, Legislation, is the perfect opportunity to use your legislation and policy skills as you partner with correctional professionals to contribute to a safer Queensland through innovative and effective corrective services. The Principal Advisor works collaboratively with a team of policy advisors to identify, assess and prioritise potential opportunities for legislative reform and manage these initiatives through the government endorsement, drafting and parliamentary consideration stages.
In this role you will: Develop and implement policy and legislation as relevant for QCS strategic directions, priorities and outcomes.Provide high quality reports, submissions, advice and critical analysis on significant, emerging and/or substantive policy and legislative issues to the Minister, Commissioner and Executive Leadership levels.Develop, assess, and/or manage proposals for legislative reform and completion of regulatory impact analysis and consultation for QCS.Prepare complex submissions and reports, briefing notes, presentations, publications and correspondence for various audiences, including Cabinet, Parliament and the general public.Analyse emerging issues relating to offenders and corrective services that may be addressed through policy, legislative or procedural changes.Develop QCS legislative proposals consistent with the Whole of Government agenda and Cabinet, Legislation and Executive Council Handbook requirements.Develop and deliver legislative proposals that meet community needs and expectations.Maintain knowledge currency of legislation, policy and procedures in relation to the management of offenders.Exchange information with relevant agencies to optimise the development of proposals for legislative reform consistent with the highest standards of community safety.Ensure appropriate and ethical decision making regarding the development and implementation of proposals for legislative reform across the QCS.Initiate, coordinate and project manage activities which deliver clearly specified legislative outcome/s.Develop effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and represent QCS in inter-agency negotiations.Applications to remain current for 12 months.
