About the Role Full time – Ongoing This role will work within a small team to deliver communications and engagement strategies and their implementation across a diverse portfolio of planning, land use, precincts, building and cladding issues. Flexibility across content areas allows the team to surge and flex to the key priority areas of the Department and Ministers.
Identify strategic challenges and opportunities within the Planning, Government land and Housing portfolios and lead the development and delivery of stakeholder communications and engagement activities, programs, and strategies in those areas.Produce high-quality communications materials including communications plans, collateral development including key messages, consultation guides, Ministerial briefs and event packs, social posts and other materials as required.Manage effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and engages with stakeholders to develop, implement, and evaluate communications strategies and engagement activities to support government activities.Work with subject matter experts to develop and deliver targeted communication strategies and activities to enhance program delivery.Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders and communication advisers from other government departments on communications issues.KEY SELECTION CRITERIA We are seeking an experienced and strategic communications professional with at least three years of demonstrated expertise in drafting and implementing policy-based communications and engagement plans, ideally within government or non-government programs. The successful candidate will possess a strong ability to communicate with impact, identifying key messages and critical information necessary for effective decision-making. They will provide high-level advice on influencing strategies, understanding audience needs, and tailoring content and style to suit specific target groups. We are looking for someone with solid stakeholder management skills, who can identify shared interests across stakeholders and build mutually beneficial partnerships, while addressing underlying needs and ensuring successful outcomes. The ideal candidate will also have a deep understanding of the political and organizational contexts within which we operate, including the pressures that shape our work and the organizational culture. Strong strategic planning capabilities are essential, with the ability to align day-to-day tasks with broader team and organizational objectives, guiding others through the strategic planning process. In addition, the ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills in complex situations, including interpreting guidelines and determining the necessary actions to resolve issues, is crucial for this role.
