Head of First Nations – SAFC Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identified Position

EP Australia is excited to be partnering with the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) to manage the search for their new Head of First Nations.

The SAFC is South Australia's leading screen authority and investment body. They support, position, and champion South Australian screen businesses to achieve creative excellence and prosperity contributing to a robust South Australian economy and creative vibrancy.

The Role Overview:
Based in Adelaide, the Head of First Nations will report to the CEO and be a critical member of the SAFC's executive leadership team, with the senior executive responsible for delivering on the SAFC's commitment to elevating First Nations voices and stories. This role will support the SAFC's strategic aims and operations and be essential to fostering a representative and inclusive screen culture and industry in South Australia.

The Head of First Nations will work with the executive team and staff across the corporate operations, management of Adelaide Studios, and delivery of industry programs including production funding and industry, talent, business and project development.
Embedded in all SAFC teams and roles across the organisation is responsibility for delivering on diversity and our First Nations targets, activities and programs. The Head of First Nations will work at a strategic level across the organisation and will be supported by all staff.

Key responsibilities: Industry Development – In Partnership with Head of Production and Development Lead the evolution, and oversee implementation, of the SAFC's First Nations Screen Strategy.Drive new industry and funding partnerships and programs to fund increased opportunities for SA First Nations screen practitioners and businesses.Oversee all industry programs to support an increasing pipeline of credited South Australian First Nations talent across film, television and video games, and increasing production outcomes for SA First Nations writers, directors and producers.Identify opportunities for increased participation of SA First Nations practitioners on SAFC supported projects.Build the profile of South Australia's First Nations screen sector locally, nationally and internationally.Provide high level advice to SAFC colleagues and applicants on First Nations screen content and matters.Work with screen industry partners to develop the cultural awareness and safety of the South Australian screen sector.Prepare reports on First Nations industry programs and outcomes for the CEO and Board.Collect and analyse data and case studies to inform SAFC First Nations industry programs.Conduct, and advise on, cultural assessment of industry program applications, as required.Advise on relevant industry policy and communications as required.Represent the SAFC at industry events. Operations and Financial Management Provide high level First Nations cultural advice on SAFC and Adelaide Studios operational matters including HR, procurement, governance and communications.Contribute positively to governance documents for SAFC and Adelaide Studios which reflect the SAFC's commitment to the participation of First Nations people in South Australia's screen industry.Advise on opportunities and programs for developing the cultural competency of the SAFC staff and Board and the SAFC's partner agencies.Exercise excellent judgement, good governance and sound financial management skills in the performance of duties.Adhere to, and comply with, SAFC policies and procedures. Leadership and Stakeholder, Client and Team Relationship Management Effectively lead and influence colleagues and partners to enable outstanding outcomes for SA First Nations screen practitioners.Maintain effective relationships with First Nations stakeholders across the state and nation.Model ethical behaviour and practices consistent with SA Government Code of Ethics for Public Sector Employees.Model exceptional leadership with all SAFC staff, contributing to a positive and effective work environment based on SAFC values.Contribute actively to the development and implementation of SAFC Strategic and Business plans, as well as SAFC programs and operational practices.Oversee the governance and effectiveness of the SAFC's First Nations Advisory Group.Actively participate in the SAFC's Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group.Provide mentorship to SAFC First Nations staff. Essential Skills & Experience Demonstrated ability to work within an institutional context, for example State/Federal Government or a large organisation, to effect change and influence industry development outcomes.Demonstrated success securing and delivering financial support for First Nations programs and activities.Ability to think strategically, identify and drive opportunities to advance the SAFC's objectives.Excellent engagement, negotiation and relationship management skills with a broad range of stakeholders.High level executive skills including the ability to manage priorities to achieve outcomes and meet deadlines, develop and manage budgets, and prepare effective reports.Ability to lead and influence the performance of a team to achieve the organisation's strategic objectives.Demonstrated commitment to SAFC values. Desirable Skills & Experience Experience in fundraising or philanthropy.Experience in grants management or delivery of funding.Experience in screen production, financing and/or distribution.
