APS4, AP5 and APS6 Analysts and Senior Analysts The Treasury of Australia – Sydney CBD NSW
The National Interest Framework Division is seeking analysts with a background in economic analysis, policy development and quantitative analysis to fill a range of roles across the Division.
The Division is offering applicants an exciting opportunity to join a high performing team at the forefront of addressing the major structural and strategic challenges that the Australian economy faces.
Successful applicants can expect to play a key role in implementing the Government's Future Made in Australia agenda and developing policy that will guide how the Government will identify priority industries, and how policy support will be designed, in a fast paced but collegiate work environment.

Multiple opportunities are available for APS4, APS5 or APS6 within the National Interest Framework Division.
Policy Analysis Roles
As a Policy Analyst in the Division you will analyse policy issues from a whole-of-economy perspective, understand government priorities and stakeholder interests and adapt to quickly changing priorities.
Your responsibilities may include: contributing to Budget products, undertaking research, contributing to advice and briefings for Ministers and senior officials on policy proposals, and stakeholder engagement.
In addition to the above attributes, to be effective in these roles you will:
have the ability to apply economic and policy frameworks when assessing issues - a good basis in economics is desirable but not essential; work collaboratively to develop policy positions and provide sound advice; possess excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities; be resilient and flexible to meet immediate needs and future challenges; be able to undertake analysis, recognising links between interconnected issues or programs, and make sound decisions and exercise judgment; have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to draft high quality briefs for ministers, executives and other stakeholders; have enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, demonstrated initiative and sound judgment; be open, accountable and of high integrity.
Quantitative Analyst Roles
As a Quantitative Analyst in the Division you will help prepare analysis, research and advice assessing the alignment of sectors of the economy with the National Interest Framework, laid out in the Future Made in Australia legislation.
Applicants will ideally have experience in economics or a quantitative field.
In addition to the above attributes, to be effective in these roles you will:
undertake quantitative analysis, including assessment of identified sectors, as well as modelling, analysis and forecasting; have well developed research and analytical skills, and possess an ability to succinctly convey the findings from your analysis and research; have data or Microsoft Excel experience.
Knowledge of one or more of the following programs is desirable, but not essential: R, E-views, SAS and PowerBI; be team-orientated, collaborative and have energy and determination to succeed; demonstrate initiative, flexibility and capacity to solve problems and work effectively with others; have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to draft high quality briefs for ministers, executives and other stakeholders; have enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, demonstrated initiative and sound judgment; be open, accountable and of high integrity.
Successful APS5 or APS6 applicants will have:
Skills in policy development and implementation and/or program management, coordination and governance; Strong analytical skills to understand complex issues and work with your team to identify opportunities and implement effective solutions; An ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships and work collaboratively, respectfully and ethically at all times; Strong written and oral communication skills; An ability to deliver high quality work within a high pressure environment.
An APS5 candidate would be expected to have at least 12 to 18 months of APS or equivalent work experience and would work independently with some guidance.
An APS6 level candidate would be expected to have more experience and operate with limited guidance.
Successful APS4 applicants will demonstrate the following capabilities:
Strong written and oral communication skills; High level of attention to detail and time management; Undertakes analysis and draws accurate conclusions based on evidence; Thinks laterally, identifies and implements improved work practices; Ability to learn and adapt quickly.
An APS4 candidate may be new to the area, with at least 6 to 12 months of real-world experience and work under the guidance of a more senior officer.
Some roles may require a candidate to be able to obtain and maintain up to an NV2 clearance.
However, only Baseline clearance is required upon commencement.
