Org. Setting and Reporting
- Responsibilities
- Within assigned authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties: - Provide interpretation into Chinese of speeches and statements given in English and/or French, and interpretation into English and/or French, as appropriate, of speeches given in Chinese. - Service up to seven meetings per week (exceptionally eight), usually of no more than three hours duration, of the United Nations and other international organizations to which the service is provided. - Routinely cover sensitive and highly technical meetings. - Routinely function as team leader of all interpreters assigned to a given meeting. - Routinely go on missions, as required, and assume duties of Chief Interpreter on mission when assigned. - May instruct and advise interpreter trainees and coach junior staff members. - May be called to assume management duties such as Officer-in-Charge of the Chinese Booth. - May assist in the preparation of training and/or examination material upon request of the Chief of Section. - May be called to collect and analyse data related to interpretation in order to identify trends or patterns and provide insights using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting, when applicable. - Perform other work-related duties, as required.

- Work Experience
- A minimum of five years of professional interpreting experience in international organizations is required. Relevant language experience within the United Nations System is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
