The University Clinic for Swine is dealing with all aspects of swine medicine, in particular infectious diseases of pigs. Scientists at the Clinic take part in teaching, routine duties like diagnostic investigations of swine herds with clinical disease and research. Teaching activities take place at the Clinic, in the University owned teaching and research facility as well as during herd visits of conventional pig farms. Research at the Clinic mainly deals with important infectious diseases, e.g. Mycoplasma spp., PRRSV, PCV2. The University Clinic for Swine aims to cooperate closely with practising vets in the field, with other institutes from the Vetmeduni Vienna but also other institutions working in the area of pig medicine

Additional comments

Research projects focusing on infection medicine in pigs (particularly microbiology); authoring research publications and acquiring of third-party funding will be part of the duties

Teaching activities: teaching during course work of the curriculm of veterinary medicine; clinical teaching both at the clinic, the VetFarm and during farm visit. Mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students

Daily clinical practice: assisting in, and assuming responsibilities in connection with, the provision of clinical services of the University Clinic for Swine; collection and processing of samples, herd health management during farm visits and with diagnostic investigation of patients and samples submitted to the University Clinic for Swine

Offer Requirements

Specific Requirements

A degree in veterinary medicine and a doctorate/PhD in the field of swine medicine

Sound knowledge of infectious medicine in pigs, practical experience in laboratory methods (microbiologic, immunologic and molecular techniques)

A track record of publication as a lead author

Teaching experience

B2 level in German and B1 level in English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
