The successful applicant will be engaged as a locally engaged staff member by the Australian Embassy, Vienna. The position is part-time, three days a week.

**About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT)**

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

This part-time position contributes to the work of the Corporate Services Section by assisting with the management of a large property portfolio. The position performs a wide range of administrative duties such as facilities management, carrying out minor repairs/maintenance/installations, liaising with and supervising service providers, and ensuring the Chancery and Residences occupied by the Australian Embassy are serviced to high standard. The position may also be called on to provide safe, secure and reliable transport for the Ambassador (Head of Mission, HOM), other members of staff and official visitors as required.

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

- Assist with repairs, maintenance and purchases for the Chancery and Australia-based (A-based) apartments, including carrying out basic repairs or installations and liaising with, booking and supervising external service providers.

- Provide day-to-day support and backup support for more senior members of the team as required.
- Assist the HOM and other personnel in support of official functions (greeting guests, escorting visitors).
- Drive the HOM vehicle or other official cars if required, including occasional out of hours duties (for which overtime applies) and infrequent travel to countries of accreditation.
- Undertake other corporate support tasks and perform back up duties as directed.

**Qualifications/Experience**
- Valid Austrian driver’s licence with excellent driving skills and a proven safety record.
- Written and oral proficiency in English is required, and German or another language of the Embassy’s countries of accreditation is desirable (Hungarian, Slovak, Slovenian, Bosnian).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and judgment.
- Ability to perform tasks with a high level of accuracy and to independently manage own workload.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in the performance of both routine and non-routine tasks.
- Ability to contribute effectively as a member of a small team, including proven initiative, cooperation, flexibility and reliability.
- Ability to interact professionally with a range of stakeholders, including senior diplomats and officials.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and undertake overtime as required.
- Professional trade experience (e.g. electrician, plumber, carpenter) in Austria is desirable.

**Selection Criteria**

In your written statements, you must include relevant high-level examples from your experience that support your claims against the role. The word limit is strictly 250 words per response. The panel will not assess responses which exceed the word limit.

A. Demonstrated administrative and organisational skills including ability to work cooperatively within a team and deliver ad-hoc tasks as required.

B. Ability to exercise sound judgement when providing services and ensure sensitive information is handled with discretion.

C. Evidence of professional driving or demonstrated ability to drive safely while adhering to local traffic regulations and conditions.
