Technical Lead - Platform Engineer (f/m/d) | Kubernetes & Developer Platforms

(Hands-on, No People Management)

Vienna (hybrid) | Full-time | Salary up to €93,000

Our client is a Vienna-based IT consulting business, delivering high-quality software solutions and modernization projects for a diverse portfolio of clients, including major players in finance, tech, and insurance.

For them, we are hiring a Lead Platform Engineer to join their growing Cloud & Platform Engineering unit.

This role sits at the intersection of cloud and platform, but the focus is clear: building internal developer platforms that enable teams to code more efficiently.

This is a technical leadership role, where you will lead the project, tech decisions, and the design, but it doesn't include people leadership.

You'll lead the technical setup for customer platforms, creating automated Kubernetes-based environments and standardized foundations that development teams can use out of the box.

What you'll be working on

  • Building automated CI/CD pipelines for Kubernetes environments
  • Designing base platform setups used by customer development teams
  • Creating standardized, reusable environments for developers to spin up quickly
  • Designing and operating internal developer platforms
  • Working across multiple customer projects with diverse setups
  • Making key technical and architectural decisions as project lead

Some development experience is welcome, but your main mission is enabling developers, not writing product code.

Tech stack & focus

  • Kubernetes (enterprise setups, operators, cluster design)
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Crossplane or Pulumi
  • GitOps: ArgoCD, Flux
  • CI/CD automation & platform security
  • Platform engineering over pure cloud operations

  • Strong hands-on background in platform or infrastructure engineering (approx 5-10 years of experience)
  • Comfortable leading projects and technical decisions
  • Platform mindset: "How do we make developers faster?"
  • Fluent English (German is a plus, not required)
