Project Director – Data Centre Construction

Salary: €130,000 - €160,000 + travel Allowance

Location: Austria

Overview:

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Project Director on behalf of one of our prestigious clients.

Our client are seeking an experienced Project Director to lead the construction of a new 100MW+ Data Centre in Austria.

This is a flagship project focused on delivering exceptional speed, quality, and efficiency. The role requires a proven leader capable of driving complex, large-scale structural builds from planning through to completion.

You will oversee all civil and structural construction activities (M&E delivered separately), ensuring delivery against strict timelines and quality standards. This position will be based on-site, with a commute of around 1 hour from the nearest residential area (no temporary on-site accommodation is permitted).

The timeline dictates that candidates must be available within 2 months of offer and be prepared to be on site 5 days per week. Project duration estimated at 18 months.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of the full construction lifecycle for a 100MW+ hyperscale data centre.
  • Oversee all site operations, ensuring adherence to programme, budget, safety, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate and manage contractors, subcontractors, and project managers to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery.
  • Provide strong leadership to the existing project team and integrate additional skilled personnel as needed.
  • Act as a senior interface with key stakeholders including the client, design teams, and internal leadership.
  • Drive continuous improvement in construction processes, ensuring alignment with customers high standards and clients reputation for fast-track delivery.
  • Manage reporting, progress reviews, and project governance in line with corporate requirements.
  • This role is focused solely on the structural construction (no M&E responsibility).

Skills and Qualifications:

  • EU Passport (essential for mobility and work eligibility).
  • Demonstrable experience as a Project Director or equivalent leading large-scale industrial, logistics, or "big shed" construction projects (e.g., hangars, warehouses, manufacturing facilities).
  • Proven ability to deliver high-value projects under demanding timelines.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, capable of motivating multidisciplinary teams and maintaining high standards on-site.
  • Strong professional network with the potential to bring trusted project managers and team members.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Data centre construction experience is highly desirable but not essential.
