About the Organisation Our client is Australia’s leading peer‑led youth trauma recovery organisation, dedicated to supporting at‑risk youth aged 8‑17. Their mission is to empower young people by fostering healing and resilience through shared experiences. They do this by creating safe spaces, where young people with lived experience support each other to heal from trauma, make meaningful peer connections, improve mental wellbeing and overcome life challenges. About the Role We are looking for a full‑time Peer Mentor in Rockhampton who has experience around risk taking behaviour, crime and/or the justice system. The Peer Mentor’s life experiences and challenges associated with risk taking behaviour, crime and/or justice systems and their personal journey will provide the foundation to mentor and support young people who are displaying a pattern of early criminal and/or anti‑social behaviours, with the intention to divert young people from the criminal justice system. You will work alongside Case Workers assisting approximately 10 people at one time, with some overlap between groups of young people, through an 18‑week program involving but not limited to the following: Providing one on one individual support Attending 2 day and 4‑day intensive weekend workshops Attending network meetings with young people’s families and extended networks Attending support groups with groups of young people Engaging and building relationships with young people’s families and extended networks Engagement with external support agencies and wider community organisations and groups Please note this role requires availability both outside of normal business hours and across weekends on an ongoing basis. Successful applicants will be required to attend 12 weekend workshops across a 12‑month period. About You As someone with personal lived experience of risk taking behaviour, crime and/or the justice system, you will apply your experience, and your journey, to support young people, applying trauma‑informed practice, open dialogue principles and culturally safe practices in your interactions. You will also have: Certificate III in any Human Services related field OR equivalent experience/lived experience. A willingness to purposefully use your own story to help others Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team Knowledge of community engagement practices Ability to build relationships while maintaining boundaries Demonstrated experience in a similar role Understand and have capability to engage with people from a range of social and cultural backgrounds Essential Requirements Queensland Working with Children Check (Blue Card) National Police Record Check Willingness to obtain First Aid Certificate A current valid Queensland drivers’ license For the opportunity to make a real difference in young people’s lives and break negative cycles by creating a safe space for them to be supported, APPLY NOW.
