Clinical Coder

The Clinical Coder is responsible for accurately assigning morbidity and procedural classifications to patient episodes in accordance with state and national data reporting requirements. This role also actively contributes to quality improvement initiatives related to clinical coding, supporting the integrity and accuracy of health information across the organisation. About The Role Utilise the 3M Codefinder Software and other relevant patient information systems to assign accurate ICD-10-AM and ACHI codes in 12th Edition, according to Australian Coding Standards (ACS), National and State Coding Authority and Queensland Health Guidelines, within designated timeframes. Abstract and verify relevant information from the medical record and clinical information systems. Utilise appropriate resources and liaise with team members and clinicians (via CCL) to clarify information as required. Identify discrepancies between clinical information systems and patient records and provide feedback through appropriate channels. Review the accuracy of DRGs (Diagnosis Related Group) allocated to admitted patient episodes prior to finalising coded data. Complete Queensland Cancer Registry notifications. Actively participate in and contribute to quality improvement activities, education activities and other initiatives within the clinical coding team. Adhere to relevant Queensland Health policies, standards, and relevant legislative requirements. Develop a positive culture within the Digital Health Service which encourages and recognises high performance, builds leadership capabilities, and supports staff to maximise their health and wellbeing.
