Staff / Lead Data Engineer (AWS Cloud) – Commonwealth Bank About the Role As a Staff Data Engineer with expertise in data engineering, software development, and a passion for building data‑driven solutions, you will lead the design and delivery of the Corporate Services data platform. You’ll work at the forefront of AWS Cloud, AI, and data‑warehouse technologies to solve complex data‑centric problems for our Finance, Risk and Treasury businesses. Key Responsibilities Design and deliver an integrated Corporate Services data platform to provide a single source of truth for timely and accurate data. Deliver Risk, Treasury, and Finance data‑platform outcomes. Oversee the delivery of all data outcomes to support Finance Risk and Treasury. Qualifications Experience building or working on data warehouses or data lakes. Strong design skills and ability to deliver robust data solutions. Familiarity with the full software development lifecycle focused on data ingestion, transformation pipelines, integration, and visualisation. Knowledge of data profiling, basic statistical concepts, and data‑quality calculations. Experience handling large‑scale data processing and analytics. Ability to enforce code quality through peer programming, code reviews, and automated pipeline release management. Competence in coaching junior engineers and sharing knowledge to uplift software practices. Technical Skills Advanced AWS and ETL expertise, including S3, RDS, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, SageMaker, Bedrock, AmazonQ, Kendra and Neptune. Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles. Proficiency in Python and SQL. Experience with ETL tools such as Ab Initio (optional) and Oracle. AWS certifications (Associate or Professional) in Data Engineering, AI, or Machine Learning. Knowledge of data‑architecture models such as Data Vault 2.0. Understanding of AI’s role in data pipelines and the machine‑learning lifecycle. Experience building scalable and efficient data pipelines for model training and inference. Experience automating engineering tasks using AI agents and DevSecOps tooling.
