Research Topic and Significance The PhD position focuses on “Thermal Energy Storage for and Flexible Cooling Systems.” As the world intensifies its efforts to decarbonise energy systems, the demand for innovative and efficient energy storage solutions is rapidly increasing. Thermal energy storage plays a pivotal role in balancing supply and demand, integrating renewable energy sources, and enhancing the safety and flexibility of cooling technologies. This research is particularly relevant in the context of climate change, urbanisation, and the growing need for resilient and energy‑efficient cooling in both and residential sectors. By developing advanced storage methods and improving system performance, this project will directly support the global shift toward sustainable, low‑carbon energy infrastructures. Project Details The PhD scholarship is offered at DTU Construct, in connection with the Clean Energy Transition Project La‑Flex and the IEA Energy Storage TCP. The research team is multidisciplinary and actively engaged in international collaborations. The scholarship includes an external research stay at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in partnership with SINTEF Energy. The full scholarship duration is three years. The project will involve experimental and modelling work, as well as exploring innovative sensing methods for thermal energy storage systems.
