Job Description Permanent, Full Time. $84,727.76 per annum plus Superannuation. Join the Waste and Sustainability team. We are seeking a Public Litter Bin Driver to join our Public Litter Bins team. In this role you will deliver high‑quality litter bin service to the Hume community. What you’ll be doing Drive the council’s rear‑load waste collection vehicle (greater than 22.4T GCM) to carry out public litter bin collections. Conduct pre‑start checks and routine maintenance on waste collection vehicles daily in accordance with approved pre‑start checklists, processes and maintenance programs. Operate the council’s onboard data collection system and record relevant collection information, including non‑conformances, overloaded bins, non‑conforming bins, contamination, etc. Carry out the collection and disposal programmes in accordance with council safety policies and procedures. Dispose of collected material at the designated disposal location and adhere to all disposal location procedures and requirements. Ensure the vehicle is cleaned and disinfected at the completion of each shift, including inspecting the vehicle and reporting any maintenance/repair requirements to the workshop. Report any damaged litter bin surrounds or waste bin inserts to the Team Leader Public Litter Bins at the end of each shift. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, including the Road Safety Act, National Heavy Vehicle Regulations and Victorian Road Rules; take mandatory rest breaks and document them, and ensure vehicle load limits are not exceeded. Assist with other Kerbside Services unit functions as directed by team leaders, including assisting with kerbside garbage bin collection in a side‑loader vehicle when required. The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role Hold a current heavy‑vehicle licence. Operate council plant and equipment safely and professionally. Good communication skills to practice public courtesy while performing duties. Relevant experience in the driving and operation of a waste collection vehicle. Understanding of occupational health and safety requirements. Knowledge of road rules and NHVR requirements. Why Hume City Council?
