This is a hands‑on role focused on maintaining infrastructure, managing land and fire risks, and ensuring operational readiness across training environments. About the role Ventia is seeking a dedicated Range Caretaker to join our team on a full‑time basis. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience in land and infrastructure maintenance, fire mitigation, and environmental management across Defence training areas. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to national defence capability in a dynamic and rewarding environment, while working closely with local communities and supporting operational readiness. Key responsibilities Support the safe and effective operation of Defence training areas through: Maintenance of infrastructure including roads, buildings, towers, and airfields. Weed and land management, including spraying and planned burns. Conducting inspections, audits, and data recording using GIS devices. Fire mitigation and cyclone preparedness. Supporting community engagement and subcontractor coordination. Administering accommodation tasks and hygiene checks. Delivering briefings and ensuring operational readiness before exercise. About you Certificate in Senior First Aid (mandatory). Cert III in Conservation and Land Management (highly desirable). Experience in chainsaw operation, weed spraying, fence repairs, and firefighting. Familiarity with AIIMS and firefighting coordination. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills. Basic computer skills and radio communications proficiency. 3+ years in a similar role. Ability to navigate using maps and annotate in Defence vernacular. Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the applicant must be an Australian Citizen and be willing to undertake and maintain a satisfactory Australian Federal Police clearance.
