Education Assistant – English as an Additional Language/Dialect Apply for the Education Assistant – English as an Additional Language/Dialect role with the Department of Education, Western Australia. This is a permanent full‑time position commencing Term 1, 2026. Koondoola Primary School (PS) is located approximately 17 kilometres from the Perth CBD in the City of Wanneroo and has an enrolment of 265 students. The school is a culturally diverse environment, with over 70% of students coming from a language background other than English. The on‑site Intensive English Centre and close partnership with Burbridge School for children with Special Needs further support inclusivity. Role The successful applicant will support English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EALD) students through mentoring, interpreting, and translating to facilitate participation and achievement. Responsibilities include: Providing interpretation and/or translation services for students, parents, caregivers, teachers, and school community members. Assisting teachers in delivering planned education programmes, including identifying and representing the educational and cultural needs of EALD students. Collaborating with teachers, parents and other professionals to design, implement and record individual or group education plans. Supporting students to better utilise the educational program and increase understanding of cultural and linguistic diversity in schools. Assisting teachers in implementing culturally and linguistically inclusive educational programmes. Qualifications and Eligibility Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent resident, or a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment. Valid Working With Children Check before commencing. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and possession of a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before commencing. Relevant experience or training in supporting EALD students. Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills in one or more languages other than English. Ability to assist teachers in implementing inclusive educational programmes. Organisational skills supporting the delivery of effective education programmes to students. Ability to assist with the general health and well‑being of students. Demonstrated ability to contribute to a team and provide multi‑cultural direction in the development and evaluation of English language programmes and resources. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers in implementing linguistically inclusive educational programmes. Demonstrated organisational skills that assist in the delivery of effective education programmes. Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well‑being of students.
