IT Security Specialist

Apply for the IT Security Specialist role at the Montana Judicial Branch, located in Helena, MT. Job Overview The position requires long work hours. A criminal background check is required. A one-year probationary period for new employees. Job Duties Develop, maintain, and assist in the implementation of Montana Supreme Court Security policies and procedures, security awareness and training plan, overall security infrastructure, risk assessment and monitoring, vulnerability and threat detection. Work with IT system owners, data custodians and IT governance groups to provide a well-coordinated information security environment. Develop and implement an incident reporting and response system to address security events and incidents; serve as principal point of contact and coordinate the handling of IT security incidents. Respond to security requests, problem reports, questions, and incident reports; recommend or take corrective action and follow up to ensure threats and vulnerabilities are addressed. Perform regular assessments of compliance. In coordination with the IT Division Director and Court Administrator, plan strategies to mitigate vulnerabilities through technical controls including patch management, web defense and other methods as appropriate. Make recommendations and provide consulting services on the development of procurement instruments and the routine procurement of information security products or services. Review, evaluate and recommend hardware, software, and other IT procurement requests for consistency with policy and best practices, technical feasibility, potential to enhance operational efficiencies, and the ability to provide secure services. Maintain current knowledge of the latest security and privacy legislation, regulations, advisories, alerts, vulnerabilities, and associated IT security risks pertaining to the Court and its mission. Skills & Abilities Expertise in IT security policies, procedures, techniques, and systems. Extensive knowledge of NIST security standards and publications. Experience with large, complex computer information environments and workstations. In-depth knowledge of software interrelationships between applications and databases. In-depth knowledge of networking and security firewall administration. Experience with current operating systems and vulnerabilities. Preferred experience with state government computer security laws and requirements, and knowledge of statewide IT organization, policies, standards and procedures. Working Conditions Work is normally performed primarily in an office setting. Physical Demands Work is essentially sedentary with occasional walking, standing, bending, and carrying items under 25 pounds. Qualifications Any combination of training and work experience that indicates possession of the knowledge, abilities, and skills listed above. Examples of acceptable qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical training, and a minimum of one (1) year of related work experience.
