We are seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant on a six month fixed term contract within the sexual health and HIV Service. As a Locum Consultant in Sexual Health, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality clinical care, ensuring service continuity, and supporting the wider sexual health team. This role requires expertise in genitourinary medicine (GUM), contraception, and HIV care, as well as the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary setting. Main duties of the job Provide specialist care in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Manage complex and high‑risk cases, including recurrent infections, antibiotic‑resistant STIs, and sexual health concerns in vulnerable populations. Offer expert advice on HIV prevention, testing, and treatment, including PrEP (Pre‑Exposure Prophylaxis) and PEP (Post‑Exposure Prophylaxis). Conduct contraceptive consultations and procedures, including the fitting/removal of intrauterine devices (IUDs) and subdermal implants. Support the integration of psychosexual health services for patients with sexual dysfunction or trauma‑related concerns. Work closely with nurses, health advisors, and other specialists to ensure a holistic approach to patient care. Contribute to the continuity of care by managing patient caseloads and ensuring timely follow‑ups. Maintain high clinical governance standards, adhering to national guidelines (BASHH, BHIVA, FSRH). Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, offering clinical leadership and expertise. Detailed job description and main responsibilities This is a 8 PA fixed‑term Locum Consultant post in the Department of Sexual Health and HIV. Applications are welcome from candidates with a relevant Certificate of Completion of Training (or within 6 months of completion of training and eligible for the specialist register) in Genito‑Urinary Medicine. The remit of the post‑holder will be to work primarily within the integrated sexual health service at the Denmark Hill site but also to flexibly provide support at the Beckenham Beacon site if required. The post‑holder will be expected to work within the multi‑disciplinary teams in the Department of Sexual Health, providing clinical leadership and supporting service developments. Additional clinical duties will be based around special interests of the candidate. The post‑holder will be required to play a leadership role and share in the general workload of the sexual health department. There will be a significant commitment to teaching and supervision of junior medical and nursing staff. You will join a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive Sexual Health and HIV and Contraceptive care to clients attending the service. The post holder is expected to provide clinical services of a high standard as per the job description and job plan. The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Lead for Sexual Health services and in providing senior clinical leadership through clinical governance and management support to the service. A focus of the post will be providing a senior leadership and management role in sexual health, contraceptive provision and safeguarding lead. Leadership roles will also include interactions with local sexual health commissioners. Person specification Qualifications Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment MRCP DipGUM DipHIV FSRH Faculty Registered Trainer Letters of competence for IUD Letter of competence for SDI Experience Experience of working in an integrated sexual health service managing both GUM and contraception cases; experience of outpatient‑based HIV care Experience in management of young persons services and child & adult safeguarding procedures. Experience in all aspects of contraception Experience of providing services to vulnerable groups and managing safeguarding concerns of adults and children. Familiar with current legislative framework and guidance regarding safeguarding children Experience of providing care to multi‑ethnic and multi‑cultural communities Experience of running a complex contraception service /complex GUM/HIV service Interest and experience in genital dermatology Ability to undertake genital biopsies Clinical Governance/Research an Publications Thorough understanding of principles of clinical governance and medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit projects Experience of poster and oral research presentation at national and/or international meetings Publications in peer reviewed journals Experience in clinical trial management; Track record of recruiting patients into research studies.
