Visit The Welcome Experience | NSW Government What You’ll Be Doing Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) New Street Service is a coordinated, community based, specialist treatment service for 10-17 year olds who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours, and is a NSW Health Child Protection initiative.The position involves collaborating with local service providers in the provision of programs related to engaging with the local Aboriginal communities and providing direct counselling to identified New Street clients.The position also undertakes community development and capacity building with local Aboriginal communities in order to best facilitate ongoing communication and service delivery to these communities; whilst acting as a cultural broker in the work of Southern NSW New Street, both internally and with communities and other Government and Non-Government agencies.The successful applicant will have a professional development plan in place that will provide the opportunity for work‑based development which allows for progression through the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award levels in accordance with the incumbent's skill acquisition. It is an expectation that staff appointed who undertake to complete the required qualifications will complete these within a defined timeframe. Selection Criteria This is an Identified Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal and being accepted in the community as such. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling or Community Welfare or other qualification deemed equivalent by employer in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Professionals (State) Award and where applicable, membership of the relevant association or registration with the relevant board. Professionals who fall under the Health Professionals (NSW) State Award will be employed at Level 1 or must provide evidence of appropriate clinical experience and knowledge to be appointed at a higher level in alignment with the award. Demonstrated ability to provide counselling services to individuals, and families in the context of child sexual assault, trauma, violence and abuse and understanding of the legal and policy framework governing child protection in NSW. Demonstrated ability to create Aboriginal community connections, engagement and collaboration to affect outcomes with an understanding of intergenerational trauma, child sexual abuse and the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal people and communities and its relationship to Aboriginal family violence. This includes an ability to implement the principles of family focussed intervention to engage with young people who have sexually harmed and with their families, including Aboriginal children and families. Accreditation or willingness to undertake accreditation with the Harmful Sexual Behaviours Counsellor Accreditation Scheme administered by the NSW Children’s Guardian. Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers’ licence and the ability to maintain. Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
