About the Role Reporting to the WHS Manager, the WHS Assurance Specialist supports the execution of AAL’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) programs. This role plays a key part in maintaining AAL’s mature WHS Management System through relationship building, business partnering, monitoring, assurance, and verification activities. The role provides oversight of contractor works, facilitates WHS consultation activities, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives. The WHS Assurance Specialist also supports the administration of key safety systems and helps embed a strong safety culture across AAL and its contractor network. Key Responsibilities Provide assurance and oversight of contractor works across AAL and PA, including service contractor audits, contractor pre‑qualification, induction management and assisting with permit‑to‑work requirements. Conduct hazard inspections and task observations, and implement corrective and improvement actions. Maintain and administer AAL’s Contractor Management and Visitor Management System (SitePass). Maintain and administer the WHS component of AAL’s Risk and Incident Management System (Riskonnect). Facilitate WHS consultation activities, including WHS Committee meetings, HSR workshops, and the Contractor Safety Committee. Foster strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders. Assist in embedding safety leadership behaviours and a positive safety culture across the airport precinct. Perform other duties as directed by the WHS Manager and Head of Risk, Safety and Compliance. Live the AAL values Accountability – Excellence starts with ownership. Working as part of the close‑knit Risk and WHS team within the broader Airport Operations business unit, you are a positive, pragmatic and motivated team player. You have the ability to proactively develop relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, demonstrate excellent attention to detail, and take pride in your work. You will own the role whilst remaining focused on our operational risk and safety culture to ensure compliance across AAL’s safety portfolios. Qualifications (Essential) Recognised tertiary qualifications in WHS (minimum Cert IV). (Desirable) Lead Auditor or management system qualifications. (Desirable) ICAM Lead Investigator. (Desirable) Cert IV in Training and Assessment. Experience (Essential) 5 + years’ experience in WHS, with a strong focus on contractor management and permits to work. (Essential) Experience with construction safety principles and WHS compliance. (Desirable) Experience in WHS systems administration (e.g., incident reporting, contractor management). (Desirable) Aviation sector experience. (Desirable) Exposure to management systems auditing.
