WESTMEAD HOSPITAL Fixed Term 0.35 FTE Postgraduate Fellow Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology - Endoscopy Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Western Sydney Local Health District. The position will be primarily located at Westmead Hospital within the Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology (Endoscopy Services). The Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Westmead Hospital provides access to a full range of gastroenterological services including inpatient and outpatient care, standard and advanced interventional endoscopy, EUS and ERCP. Clinical duties will involve initiating and developing all aspects of relevant research projects, attend endoscopy sessions and interview patients or study participants. Successful applicants will be continuing the current clinical endoscopic programs focusing on: Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) Capsule endoscopy Methods to improve safety and efficacy of endoscopic resection in the colon, stomach and oesophagus for early cancer and pre‑cancer Techniques to minimize the occurrence of ERCP complications and enhance technical efficacy Methods in the endoscopic palliation of malignancy The position will be for a period of twelve months for the 2026 Clinical Year from 2 February 2026 to 31 January 2027. Applicants must have Australian Fellowship/Specialist Registration. Applicants expecting to be awarded fellowship within 3 months are eligible to apply. Successful applicants may be offered a conjoint university appointment within the Faculty of Medicine at the relevant University attached to each facility. The level of academic appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications, experience and scholarship and will be held only during the tenure of the Western Sydney Local Health District appointment. No remuneration is attached to the University appointment. The appointee will be responsible to the University for academic matters and to the district for clinical matters. Appointees may be eligible for credentialing and privileging across all other facilities in the Western Sydney Local Health District. Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Selection Criteria Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship, Permanent Australian Residency or Special Category Visa. Sound clinical knowledge in clinical trials, general and interventional endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound and gastroenterology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical/Dental Practitioner including: High level interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision. Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department. Completion of a previous higher research degree or a history of published research in high impact peer reviewed journals is desirable. Sound clinical knowledge in clinical research and clinical trials, including: (1) Management of electronic databases (e.g. FileMaker, RedCAP, MS Access); (2) Performing statistical analysis, including working with statistical software (e.g. SPSS, Stata, SAS); (3) Managing interactions with the Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) – applications, amendments, reporting, etc.; (4) Professional guidance of research support personnel (research nurse, research students); (5) Experience with health system data storage, retrieval and analysis. Proven experience in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) including assessment and sampling (FNA/FNB) of submucosal lesions of the GI tract and pancreatic lesions. (>100 procedures) and Proven experience in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio‑Pancreatography (ERCP) – including but not limited to selective biliary cannulation, selective pancreatic cannulation, treatment of common biliary pathologies such as choledocholithiasis, strictures, etc. (>100 procedures) is desirable. Proven experience with tertiary level colonic and oesophageal EMR and other forms of advanced endoscopic tissue resection and Proven experience in capsule endoscopy reporting is desirable.
