Assistant Principal Special Education - Lakemba Public School Lakemba Public School is located in South Western Sydney and has a current student enrolment of over 420 students. The school culture is built on the values of respect, cooperation and responsibility. The students, staff, parents and the wider community work together to promote Excellence in Practice. The school’s current Family Occupation Education Index (FOEI) is 101. A Support Unit will be established in 2026. The school is supported by a culturally diverse and harmonious community. The largest cultural groups in the school speak Urdu, Bengali, Arabic and Rohingya. The school offers a Community Language Program which supports the Arabic speaking students in maintaining and developing their home language. Ninety-nine percent of students at Lakemba Public School come from a language background other than English. They all require various levels of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) support. There are currently no Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander students enrolled. Selection Criteria In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach special education and/or experience and expertise to improve learning outcomes for students K-6 with autism, intellectual disabilities and complex and diverse needs. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a dynamic leadership team; strategically planning, leading and monitoring initiatives, and applying evaluative practices to drive continuous improvement. Successful experience in building capacity of staff to facilitate whole school professional practices that improve learning and wellbeing outcomes of students with disabilities and/or other complex needs. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated capacity to work as an effective member of collaborative school teams, building and maintaining culturally safe, trusting relationships with students, staff, external agencies and the wider community. General Selection Criteria Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal education policy. Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
