This is a hands‑on role for a confident communicator who can build relationships, manage competing priorities, and produce strong written and visual content in a busy health environment. Working within the district’s broader Strategic Relations and Communications team, you will drive media, internal communications, digital content and stakeholder engagement initiatives that elevate the stories, people and achievements of the children’s hospital. About the team The Strategic Relations and Communications team supports Hunter New England Local Health District. In this role, you’ll focus on the children’s hospital while remaining closely linked to the broader district communications function. You’ll join a collaborative team that values creativity, proactive thinking and high‑quality communication. What we’re looking for We’re looking for someone who thrives on building trusted relationships and can confidently engage a wide range of stakeholders in a fast‑moving environment. Strong writing skills are essential – from media releases and staff messages to developing digital content – along with the ability to turn one great story into multiple tailored pieces. You’ll bring Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with senior clinical and executive stakeholders The ability to produce clear, engaging written and visual content across multiple channels Experience providing strategic communications advice on complex issues Creativity, sound judgement and an eye for opportunity A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from colleagues A commitment to handling confidential or sensitive matters appropriately Initiative and professional discretion when advising others Ability to work flexibly and problem‑solve in a dynamic environment Requirements of the role Tertiary qualifications in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related field, or demonstrated equivalent experience Experience in media, internal communications and/or digital content NSW Driver Licence and willingness to travel when required Willingness to participate in an after‑hours media roster Additional Information An eligibility list will be created for future temporary part‑time vacancies. To be eligible for employment in this position you must be an Australian Citizen, or permanent resident of Australia, or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or hold an appropriate visa that allows you to live and work in Australia.
