Where you'll be Working Royal North Shore Hospital Emergency Department is a busy tertiary service seeing 90,000 adult and paediatric patients annually and serving as a trauma centre and a state-wide burns and spinal referral hospital. Post Graduate Fellows have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of Trauma Care, from ED resuscitation to operating theatre management and ICU care, to post operative ward care and to discharge. About the Role The position is part of the Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH) Trauma Service which provides specialised care for the severely injured major trauma patient. The position will be primarily responsible for providing clinical management and treatment of patients both under the care of the Trauma Service or in requirement of Trauma Service team input at Royal North Shore Hospital, including supervision or, where necessary, completion of Trauma Tertiary Surveys. The position will actively participate in any Trauma specific emergency calls, including both Trauma Attend and Code Crimson pages, in the Emergency Department and/or Operating Theatres. Purpose of the Position You will provide clinical management and treatment of patients under your care in a Northern Sydney Local Health District facility or service. This care will be provided within the scope of clinical practice endorsed by the NSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee. The position will provide clinical consultation services within NSLHD and will contribute to the teaching and training of medical students, graduates and other health care professionals and to research, evaluation and quality improvement activities within NSLHD. Selection Criteria MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants must have Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine or Royal Australasian College for Surgeons or Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists or College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand or recognition as a specialist by the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered. Demonstrates these behaviours with all stakeholders; colleagues, direct reports, as well as our patients and consumers, and those that care for them. Sound clinical knowledge in Trauma Service demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality assurance activities relevant to the specialty. Demonstrated clinical, diagnostic and technical skills commensurate with functioning as an independent Trauma Service Consultant, including ability to manage complex critically injured trauma patients within the scope of their training, to a high level. Demonstrated high level non-technical skills relevant to managing complex, critically injured major trauma patients, including high level interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment Demonstrated participation in and commitment to undergraduate, postgraduate, interdisciplinary teaching and education (such as EMST, DSTC, or other relevant trauma courses), including research, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established. Current employment in a critical care sub-specialty of the clinician's parent specialty is mandatory. Experience in pre-hospital retrieval medicine is desirable.
