About the role The Tasmania Prison Service is recruiting for a Senior Consultant, Work Health and Safety. This role contributes toward the achievement of the broader Department of Justice work health and safety strategic objectives by providing specialist work health and safety capabilities for the Tasmanian Prison Service (TPS) ensuring effective management and compliance with the Department's Safety Management System. Appointment Details This role is a permanent, day work position working 73.50 hours per fortnight. Benefits Salary of $109,999 to $123,395 pa. Starting salary negotiable within range subject to experience in a similar role. Annual salary increases within this range in accordance with the Tasmanian State Service Award and Public Service Union Wages Agreement. This position is based at Risdon Vale. The Risdon Vale site offers a corporate working environment without the hustle and bustle of city‑centre offices, free on‑site parking and access to the on‑site staff gym (or head across the road to Risdon Brook Dam for a walk at lunch time). Duties Provide high‑level authoritative advice on work health and safety matters to the TPS senior executive, managers and workers. Assist with the development, implementation, promotion and monitoring of the Department of Justice Work Health and Safety Strategic Plan and Safety Management System within the TPS. Influence and support TPS senior executives, managers and workers to effectively implement and maintain safe systems of work and ensure compliance with the Department’s Safety Management System. Provide coaching and mentoring to the Coordinator, Work Health and Safety (TPS) day‑to‑day. Manage complex enquiries and prepare high‑level correspondence, documentation and reports in a timely manner. Facilitate high‑level risk assessments, audits and investigations to support continuous improvement and positive learning outcomes and build the safety capacity of the TPS. Prepare and analyse work health and safety reports, including identifying and advising on trends, risks and issues arising from data analytics. Please see the Statement of Duties for a full list of duties. Qualifications / Desirable Requirements Diploma in Work Health and Safety. Industry experience in a complex organisation. Work Health and Safety Investigation Qualification (e.g. ICAM). Lead Auditor Qualification. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Current Driver’s Licence.
