Cyber Defence Engineer

As a Cyber Defence Engineer at St John of God Health Care, you will be at the heart of our security operations, protecting, detecting and responding to cyber threats across the organisation. You will build, operate and continuously improve cybersecurity tools and processes, while partnering with skilled professionals to enhance our defences, optimise tools and maintain a secure, compliant and resilient digital environment. Position Overview Mid‑senior level, full‑time role with a total remuneration package of $139,100 to $154,500 per annum, working 76 hours per fortnight. Located at Perth CBD (Kings Square) or Melbourne CBD (Collins St) offices, with salary‑packaging up to $18,550 and various benefits. Responsibilities Build, operate and continuously improve cybersecurity tools and processes. Ensure the operational effectiveness of core cybersecurity tools, including SIEM, XDR, EDR, SWG, SEG, VPN and vulnerability management platforms. Drive continuous improvement of cybersecurity technologies and operational processes. Ensure all controls are current, effectively deployed and operating as intended. Oversee day‑to‑day security operations in conjunction with the MSSP and Cyber Defence Team. Ensure timely detection, analysis and resolution of security incidents and breaches. Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to investigate and remediate incidents effectively. Participate in simulations, tabletop and desktop exercises to evaluate and enhance readiness. Maintain an up‑to‑date understanding of the cyber threat landscape, particularly within the health sector and related industries. Qualifications Tertiary qualification in Information Systems, Security or a related discipline, or at least three years’ experience in equivalent roles. Relevant security certifications (CSEC, CEH, OSCP, vendor certifications etc.). Strong communication skills with both technical and business stakeholders. Knowledge of contemporary DevSecOps practices and a passion for technological trends in digital security. Benefits Salary $139,100 to $154,500 per annum total remuneration package.
