Consultant Anaesthetist – Regional NSW | Elective & Emergency Surgery | Work-Life Balance Position We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Anaesthetist to join a regional surgical and critical care team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of safe, efficient, and effective anaesthetic services in a well‑supported and collaborative rural hospital setting. You will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, providing comprehensive anaesthetic care across a broad range of elective and emergency surgical procedures. Participation in perioperative clinics, on‑call duties, and trauma response support within the Emergency Department are key components of the role. An attractive salary package will be on offer. Essential Criteria Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), or equivalent specialist qualifications Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) Demonstrated experience in delivering anaesthesia across a range of surgical specialties Ability to participate in a 1:4 on‑call roster Experience or willingness to work in a rural or regional hospital setting Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team Strong communication, clinical decision‑making, and leadership skills Commitment to continuous professional development and high‑quality patient care Location Located in the picturesque New England region of northern New South Wales, this thriving regional centre offers a unique blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and academic excellence. Service Overview This is a regional health service supporting four operating theatres and offering a diverse elective and emergency surgical caseload, including: Orthopaedics – Hip and knee replacements, general orthopaedic procedures General Surgery – Laparoscopic cholecystectomy, bowel cancer resections, hernia repairs, skin lesion excisions, gastroenterology, and emergency cases Dental Surgery – Paediatric and adult patients Urology Obstetrics & Gynaecology – Including anaesthetic support for labour epidurals Anaesthetists provide care for ASA 1 and 2 patients undergoing selected complex major procedures, as well as ASA 3 to 5 patients undergoing common, intermediate, and selected major procedures. The position includes participation in a shared perioperative outpatient consultation roster and a 1:4 on‑call roster. Anaesthetists may also be called to the Emergency Department to assist with trauma management and airway support.
