About the Program HIPPY (Home Interaction Program for Parents and Youngsters) is an early childhood enrichment and parenting program for children and their parents/carers designed to make children ‘school ready’ and develop a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. About the Opportunity As the Hippy Tutor, you will provide support to parents to learn new skills and build confidence as their child’s first teacher. You will work with parents to create an interest in their children’s learning, promoting cognitive and social development and enhance school readiness. You will: Promote family engagement with education and the community and implement the delivery of the HIPPY program in a culturally sensitive way that supports active participation. Meet with between 10 and 15 HIPPY families on a weekly basis to role‑play and deliver HIPPY materials in the home or a group meeting. Refer HIPPY families to the HIPPY Coordinator if they need additional support or assistance. Meet with the Coordinator on a weekly basis for the purpose of role‑playing the next week’s material, reporting on the progress of the HIPPY families assigned, and discussing any problems that arose during the previous week. Participate in weekly training and regular staff development. Assist in the HIPPY office and other duties as requested by the Coordinator. A Working with Children check is a mandatory requirement for this role. Current and valid Australian Driver's License. To be successful in this role you will have: Be a parent participating in the HIPPY Program or a parent that participated in the HIPPY Program within 12 months of his or her appointment as a Tutor. Willing to work within the HIPPY program for a maximum of 2 years. Interest and enthusiasm in supporting families to promote education through activities within their family unit. Ability to relate to people from a range of cultural and language backgrounds from within the local community. Be comfortable visiting homes in the community. Basic literacy in English including reading, writing and numeracy. Prior experience or, at a minimum, demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse clients, communities, staff, and Aboriginal controlled organisations.
