ES - Maribyrnong Sports Academy - Strength and Conditioning Coach Department of Education Victoria – Maribyrnong VIC 10d ago , from Department of Education & Training Victoria Maribyrnong College provides a broad education for students in Years 7-12. It is also home to Victoria's only state-funded Sports Specialism with a sports enrolment comprising nearly 40% of the school population. The College provides a broad VCE and the majority of students undertake further study after Year 12. The school's International Student Program supports 50 international students, predominantly in Years 10 to 12. Additionally, the College provides an EAL program to support students of non-English speaking backgrounds. Maribyrnong College delivers programs that produce excellent outcomes for students in both academic and sporting endeavours and this is aptly described by the school's motto: "Pride in Performance". A High Achiever Program has operated since 2005 and Year 10 accelerated students access VCE subjects. A rich extra-curricular program includes instrumental music and drama, a school production and a strong inter-school sport program. College facilities include a 230-seat theatre, a 7000 square metre Sport Stadium with indoor running track and elite training centre, and synthetic hockey, soccer and tennis facilities. The sport complex forms the base for the Maribyrnong Sports Academy program and all students at the College use this facility for Health and PE classes. The College has grown significantly in recent years to over 1200 students in 2024. In turn staff numbers have risen to total of 155 this year. Leading Teachers have responsibility for various curriculum and student management folios. The College has four principal class officers as well as a Sports Director responsible for the Maribyrnong Sports Academy. Significant environmental and facility improvements have been undertaken in recent years. Due to site restrictions and unprecedented enrolment demand at all year levels, the College has been subject to an enrolment zone since 2012. Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability to develop effective strength & conditioning programs using training principles & methodologies with a Long-Term Athletic Development focus. Demonstrated experience (5+ years) working within a Sports Institute / Academy and/or High-Performance setting. Work with adolescent athletes highly regarded. Established coaching skills inclusive of excellent communication, instructional skills, voice projection, developing rapport / relationships & developing an engaging daily training environment. Ability to work in a collaborative environment and possess a high level of initiative, bringing in concepts to improve the High Performance Preparation (HPP) program. Role Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA) is the sporting specialist school supporting more than 550 talent identified student-athletes. MSA has 15 main sport programs and employs a team of over 70 coaches, teachers, strength and conditioning coaches, sports nutrition, performance psychology, administration staff with International, National and State elite sport experience. It is important to note that the MSA program is an individual development program. The aim of the program is to develop individual student-athletes to reach their potential academically and athletically. Winning school sport competitions is not an objective of the program. We are seeking applications for a Strength & Conditioning (S&C) Coach in a full-time role on a 3-year contract. The successful applicant will operate within the High-Performance Preparation (HPP) timetabled subject and provide strength & conditioning support before or after school for the student athletes. This role will involve working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team inclusive of fellow S&C coaches, rehabilitation staff and physiotherapists to provide expertise in the development and delivery of quality S&C services to MSA student athletes. This role requires highly developed coaching skills, excellent communication and instructional skills, and the ability to develop relationships & maintain the engagement of student athletes within the daily training environment. A sound knowledge of LTAD training principles for the adolescent student athlete is essential to develop quality S&C programming for the student athletes at MSA. Responsibilities Develop and effectively deliver quality strength & conditioning services to MSA student athletes for specific cohorts or individuals. Collect and maintain S&C physical performance testing data including maintenance of database to develop individual physical performance profiles. Integrate sport science technology within the daily training environment. Ability to develop rapport & relationships with adolescent student athletes while providing an engaging daily training environment. Monitor new developments and latest research in the field of strength & conditioning, particularly related to adolescent athletes. Establish and maintain strong professional relationships and communication with all key stakeholders and associations by attending regular meetings to discuss the progress of individuals and teams with relation to performance, conditioning, injury prevention and return to play. Work collaboratively and as part of the S&C team to ensure the College adopts cutting edge practices in athlete preparation, coaching, planning and evaluating S&C services. Encourage a harmonious team environment by liaising with all team members, medical and well-being staff, coaches, college staff and parents. Strength & Conditioning Qualifications An appropriate degree in sports science or a degree majoring in exercise and sports science or similar study area (mandatory).
