Central Tablelands Landcare Nursery Manager Location: Bathurst, but may need to travel to Orange, Molong and Blayney. Tenure: Permanent Part Time - 2 days a week negotiable on a needs basis. Salary: Commensurate with experience, and as per the Fair Work Ombudsman Nursery Award (MA ). Range: $28.15 - $33.82 - above award negotiable commensurate with experience. Central Tablelands Landcare Nursery is looking for a knowledgeable nursery manager to work with a dedicated team of volunteers to grow native tubestock for environmental plantings. The Central Tablelands Landcare Nursery is a community run nursery with a friendly team who are passionate about the conservation of the environment. In this role you will work alongside both volunteers, the assistant nursery manager, the Central Tablelands Landcare coordinator and committee. In this dynamic role you will manage and expand the nursery, carry out native plant production from seed collections, consult with land managers about appropriate species, manage orders, batching and administration of the nursery. The nursery has a volunteer working bee every Thursday. This is a unique and rewarding position that would suit a passionate horticulturist or environmental professional to positively contribute to the local environment, whilst working with an enthusiastic, grass roots team. About the role: The Nursery manager will be working in the broader Landcare network, with support from the assistant nursery manager, a passionate group of volunteers, the local Landcare coordinator and the greater Landcare community. Duties include, but are not limited to: Manage ordering, invoicing and batching nursery orders. Collaborate with and lead a team of passionate volunteers. Grow the presence and impact of the nursery. Adopt existing procedures and develop new procedures. Environmental consulting for Central Tablelands Local Landcare. Field work (seed harvesting, site inspections). The position will be based at our Bathurst nursery, however the role will service and travel within the Central Tablelands Local Landcare catchment, which includes Bathurst, Orange, Molong and Blayney. Knowledge of endemic plants and ecosystems, and the ability to consult on these topics. Experience in provenance seed collection, an understanding of variations in plant germination and strengthening, and growing species to order. Experience in managing a group of passionate volunteers. The ability to coordinate and run a local community plant nursery; including sales, invoicing, batching and coordinating collection. A passion for the environment and conserving local flora species. Flora and fauna identification skill and the ability to conduct workshops and educational experiences for the community. Develop and deliver educational programs and advocate for the local environment and Landcare. Desirable: First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain. Safe Chemical Handling Course or willingness to obtain. Selection Criteria: Physical capability to safely perform field work/site assessments, along with travel. Physical capability to safely perform manual work associated with managing a nursery. Environmental management and ecosystem knowledge and experience. Professional reliability and punctuality. Familiarity with working in a nursery and the related processes. Willingness to keep up to date with current environmental and industry standards and information. Customer services and communication skills. Ability to manage production/sales from propagation to batching orders. This will include liaison with clients, quoting and invoicing orders. Strong collaboration skills to work with experienced volunteers and the ability to recruit and train new volunteers.
