About NSWALC The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) is the peak body representing Aboriginal Land Councils in NSW. Established under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983, NSWALC works to protect and promote the rights and interests of Aboriginal people by returning culturally significant land, fostering economic independence, and advocating on issues that matter to our communities. The Opportunity The Executive Director, Community provides strategic leadership for the design, coordination and delivery of high-quality supports to Local Aboriginal Land Councils (LALCs) across NSW. The role leads a multi‑disciplinary stream focused on strengthening governance, building capability, enabling community priorities and supporting long‑term outcomes for the Land Rights Network. About the Role Lead community‑facing services and supports that strengthen LALC governance, capacity and community outcomes. Support LALCs to understand and meet their statutory obligations under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 through clear guidance and practical assistance. Develop streamlined and modernised processes that reduce administrative burden for LALCs and improve service efficiency. Lead a high‑performing multi‑disciplinary workforce across the Community Stream, ensuring clear role accountability, effective planning, and quality delivery. Build and maintain strong partnerships with government, private sector and community organisations to enhance service reach and impact. Provide strategic advice to the CEO, Councillors and Leadership Team on matters impacting LALCs and community outcomes. Qualifications & Experience Aboriginality – this is an identified position under Section 14(d) of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1977. Relevant tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience) with extensive senior leadership experience within a complex not‑for‑profit, community or service delivery organisation. Demonstrated ability to engage respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal peoples and organisations, with a commitment to self‑determination and culturally informed practice. Strong operational management capability including planning, risk management and resource allocation, and highly developed financial and resource management skills. Why Join Us?
