The Cadets – Officer Commanding is a cornerstone leadership position within The Scots College, responsible for inspiring, guiding, and developing young men through one of the College’s most significant and historic programs. As the Commanding Officer of the Scots College Cadet Unit, you will lead a large and diverse team across all campuses, delivering a program that fosters adventure, leadership, service, and resilience in alignment with the College’s Brave Hearts, Bold Minds educational philosophy. You will ensure the safe, effective, and engaging operation of the Cadet Unit, upholding the College’s Christian mission and values while modelling the character, discipline, and integrity expected of a Scots leader. Heart of the Role The Cadets – Officer Commanding is a cornerstone leadership position within The Scots College, responsible for inspiring, guiding, and developing young men through one of the College’s most significant and historic programs. As the Commanding Officer of the Scots College Cadet Unit, you will lead a large and diverse team across all campuses, delivering a program that fosters adventure, leadership, service, and resilience in alignment with the College’s Brave Hearts, Bold Minds educational philosophy. You will ensure the safe, effective, and engaging operation of the Cadet Unit, upholding the College’s Christian mission and values while modelling the character, discipline, and integrity expected of a Scots leader. Who are you? You are a committed, values‑driven leader with demonstrated experience in Cadets, defence, outdoor education, or a comparable youth leadership environment. You may be a current or aspiring Australian Army Cadets (AAC) Commissioned Officer, or you are willing to obtain commission and membership. You have experience managing complex programs – including training, logistics, administration, and people – and demonstrate strong judgement, composure, and decision‑making under pressure. You bring excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, parents, AAC personnel, and community stakeholders. You may hold a current NSW Teacher Accreditation (preferred). You embody servant leadership, modelling humility, integrity, teamwork, and care in all you do. You bring an authentic Christian faith that guides your leadership, relationships, and service. Where do you fit in? You lead the Scots College Cadet Unit with professionalism, clarity, and purpose, ensuring the program reflects the College’s vision, mission, and Christian ethos. You develop and deliver a meaningful Cadet curriculum that fosters leadership, character formation, and adventure. You oversee all operational aspects of the Unit including compliance with AAC requirements, risk management, training, ceremonial events, and equipment readiness. You support and develop staff, ensuring that training, induction, safety, and performance expectations are met. You coordinate events such as ANZAC and Remembrance Day ceremonies, annual camps, parades, bivouacs, and promotion courses with precision and respect. You maintain high standards of safety, communication, documentation, and record‑keeping across all Cadet activities. You work collaboratively across the College to align the Cadet Unit with broader co‑curricular, pastoral, and community programs. What do we offer?
