An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Primary or Secondary Teacher who will benefit from: Intensive training and support Over 12 hours of in‑class therapy support each week Targeted opportunities for career development About the role Due to enrolment growth, we are seeking an effective and energetic teacher to join our highly skilled, dedicated, and expanding team. Giant Steps’ teachers work collaboratively in a dynamic team of teacher aides, speech therapists, occupational therapists and music therapists. Teachers work alongside therapists in the classroom to deliver the curriculum and implement a range of strategies and supports, enhancing the teaching and learning experience of students. Giant Steps has an established inclusive, neuro‑affirming culture that it actively seeks to foster through acceptance and understanding of the child as an individual. We are committed to innovation across all facets of the school. The Giant Steps staff team includes over 12 teachers, 28 teacher aides, and 14 full‑time equivalent (FTE) therapists, including speech therapists, occupational therapists and music therapists. These staff support 51 students across our primary and secondary schools. The school operates many complimentary services to support students and their families, including an on‑site mental health clinic with specialist support from a psychiatrist. For more information, visit giantsteps.net.au Duties and responsibilities Deliver quality teaching for students on the autism spectrum, including planning, delivery, and evaluation of the class program Design, implement, assess and report the progress of students according to their Individual Plans Design and implement differentiated teaching resources specifically targeting the individual needs of students Implement strategies supporting student engagement within the program Collaborate effectively within the trans‑disciplinary team Support and manage teacher aides in the class team Respect and support colleagues and families through positive communication Actively ensure the ongoing inclusion of students on the autism spectrum within the school and wider community Qualifications Accreditation with Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Experience working with children on the autism spectrum Active and inclusive approach to interacting and engaging with children Effective team member with excellent communication skills Willingness to participate in professional development to improve teaching skills for supporting autistic students First aid certificate or willingness to obtain one Experience working in a special education setting Additional qualifications in Special Education or further study in relevant areas What the successful candidate can expect from Giant Steps Access to extensive professional learning opportunities given Giant Steps’ commitment to professional development for all staff Opportunity to increase your take‑home income through access to maximum allowable Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption, due to Giant Steps status as a PBI Additional benefits include working in a team, access to a range of professional expertise from different disciplines, access to mentoring from experienced teachers Salary scale between $81,554 – $127,028 + superannuation.
