Base pay range A$75.00/hr - A$80.00/hr We’re looking for a motivated Junior Data Scientist to join our team on a contract basis starting January 2026 . This role is ideal for someone early in their data career who is eager to learn, build real-world models, collaborate with experienced AI/IT leaders, and contribute to meaningful analytics work within a dynamic environment. Junior Data Scientist – Contract Role (Start January 2026) Start Date: January 2026 – New Year Start Contract Type: Contract Candidate preference: Candidate must be based in Brisbane. About the Role Working under the guidance of internal AI and IT leadership, you will support data preparation, analysis and model development across business needs. You will collaborate closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders, contributing to insights, visualisations and reproducible data assets that support decision‑making. Key Responsibilities Data Preparation & EDA Acquire, clean and prepare datasets by joining data sources, handling missing values and deriving basic features. Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, trends, anomalies and data‑quality issues. Assist with training and evaluating analytical and machine learning models (e.g. regression, classification, simple time‑series models). Contribute to performance assessment, benchmark comparisons and documenting assumptions. Prepare clear charts, summaries and simple reports that help non-technical audiences understand insights and results. Code Quality & Documentation Follow agreed coding standards, documentation practices and version control (Git) to ensure reproducibility. Support knowledge transfer through process documentation, code notes and handover materials. Participate in stand‑ups, reviews and planning sessions, incorporating feedback to improve outputs. Deliver clean, structured datasets or preparation scripts/notebooks. Produce EDA outputs such as notebooks, tables, charts and short written insights. Provide model training and evaluation artefacts. Create simple dashboards or visuals for business stakeholders. Maintain clear documentation and handover materials. Mandatory Skills & Experience Qualifications in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or similar (or equivalent experience) Strong foundational Python skills (pandas, NumPy, scikit‑learn, matplotlib/plotly) Proven experience in data cleaning, joining, aggregating and feature creation Experience performing EDA and communicating findings through charts and commentary Basic understanding of supervised learning and evaluation metrics Ability to write clean, well‑documented, version‑controlled code Ability to leverage AI tools to enhance workflows and efficiency Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability Exposure to AWS or other cloud analytics platforms Experience with visualisation tools such as Tableau Understanding of MLOps concepts (pipelines, monitoring, deployment) Experience with time‑series or forecasting problems Exposure to supply‑chain, FMCG, manufacturing or agribusiness environments Demonstrated interest in continuous learning (projects, competitions, online courses) Why Apply?
