Principal Database Automation Engineer Our client, a leading name in the financial services sector, is seeking a Principal Database Automation Engineer to take ownership of their enterprise‑scale SQL infrastructure and drive the automation and modernisation of their database platforms. This is a senior, hands‑on role suited to someone who has developed from a deep on‑premises infrastructure background – with strong experience across storage, networks, and core infrastructure – and evolved into a leader in database automation, architecture, and design. Location Sydney (Hybrid) Base Pay Range Australian $180,000.00 – $200,000.00 per year. Responsibilities Lead the design, build, and automation of highly available SQL database environments supporting critical financial applications. Develop and implement infrastructure automation solutions using Terraform or Ansible. Partner with architecture, platform, and DevOps teams to define and deliver the strategic database automation roadmap. Optimise and modernise SQL infrastructure, ensuring scalability, performance, and security across environments. Provide architectural guidance on database platform design, integration, and migration (including Postgres). Mentor engineering teams and champion best practices around automation, observability, and infrastructure‑as‑code. Qualifications Proven experience in database engineering and automation roles within complex, regulated environments. Deep hands‑on expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and solid working knowledge of PostgreSQL. A strong grounding in on‑premises infrastructure – particularly storage, networking, and compute. Proficiency with Terraform and/or Ansible for infrastructure automation. Demonstrated architectural and design experience, ideally across hybrid or multi‑cloud environments.
