The Research Associate (Level A) will contribute to research efforts at the Biomedical AI Laboratory, led by Professor Vafaee, and will work on cutting‑edge projects. Job Details Salary : $113,000 – $121,000 plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading Contract : Fixed term – 10 months Hours : Part‑time (35 hours per week) Workplace : Australia Specific Responsibilities For This Role Include Contribute independently or as a team member in collaborative research to enhance research quality. Collaborate in multidisciplinary research at the intersection of biology, medicine, and computational science, coordinating outcomes with stakeholders. Foster innovation by developing novel approaches and leading research initiatives. Conduct research and enable teams to produce scholarly outputs recognised by peers. Undertake specific research projects under the guidance of a research leader. Support dissemination of research through appropriate channels. Perform literature reviews, data collection, method development, analysis, and manuscript preparation. Participate in and present at conferences and workshops relevant to the project. Assist with supervision of research students where required. Align with UNSW's Code of Conduct and Values. Cooperate with health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring safety for self and others. To Be Successful In This Role You Will Have A PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. Experience in analysing and interpreting omics datasets, with expertise in AI and machine learning. Experience with single‑cell and multi‑omics data and biological principles. Proficiency in modern AI models (e.g., BERT, GNN, VAE, GANs, GPT, LLMs). Hands‑on NGS bioinformatics pipelines and workflows. Commitment to staying current with disciplinary advances. High‑quality independent research ability with limited supervision. Track record of publications and conference presentations. Teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Strong communication with diverse stakeholders. Understanding of UNSW's aims, objectives and values. Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and training.
