Senior Producer, Radio National, Life Matters – Brisbane Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Senior Producer role for Life Matters in Brisbane. It’s a show where your stories shape the national conversation.” About the Role Life Matters is Radio National’s live daily show about contemporary Australian life and the community we live in. Through trusted experts and listeners’ personal stories, we help you figure out all the big stuff in life: relationships, health, money, work and the world. We are looking for a highly experienced, talented journalist/producer to write and produce well‑researched, sophisticated, and comprehensive briefs that engage and inform an audience for Life Matters and other Radio National programmes as required. Willingness to be trained in studio operation for live and pre‑recorded interviews (panelling) is essential. Responsibilities Provide high level editorial and significant creative input to the Life Matters programme team, assisting with the development of programme design, style and philosophy. Generate, research and produce original story ideas, interviews and panel discussions, producing the daily quota of sophisticated and comprehensive briefs in a timely manner on complex topics in social affairs and public policy, consumer affairs and cultural issues. Provide editorial guidance and supervision to more junior staff and assist them as required with training. Work effectively with the presenter and executive producer, provide in‑studio direction live to air, and manage all inputs to the programme when required. When rostered, carry out studio direction and operation (panelling) for live and pre‑recorded interviews. Qualifications & Experience Relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent skills, knowledge and experience. Advanced journalistic skills, excellent news sense and advanced editorial judgement. Daily radio experience with a good network of contacts. Advanced ability to produce sophisticated and comprehensive briefs on complex topics for longer‑format interviews under broad direction. Honed leadership skills including experience mentoring and guiding team members. Sophisticated communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills with a naturally collaborative work style. Excellent organisational skills and ability to work quickly and accurately. An aptitude for creative storytelling on digital platforms that will engage and expand audiences. Experience writing and sub‑editing digital‑first copy and producing on‑demand/podcast audio is highly valued. Benefits 15.4% ABC Nominated Super. Paid parental, carer’s and supporting partner leave.
