Ongoing, Full-Time Opportunity to work with a high-performing and passionate team in the Victorian Public Service. The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a State Training Instructor to provide a critical role within Security and Emergency Services Group. About the Business Unit The Security and Emergency Services Group (SESG) provides security services and incident and emergency response to the correctional system. SESG is responsible for providing immediate and longer-term support through its diverse portfolios, such as emergency and incident response, High Security Escort of prisoners, state-wide training services, barrier control, search and K9 services and management of firearms. About the Role The State Training Instructor is responsible for the coordination, development, and delivery of training to custodial officers across the correctional system, including within the SESG. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, an understanding of modern adult learning principles, strong communication skills, leadership, maturity, sound judgement, confidence in decision making, and the ability to coach, mentor and motivate staff. The role plays an integral part in developing and continually updating Corrections Victoria training packages and materials to ensure best practice and continuous improvement. The State Training Instructor will actively lead working parties and reference groups, take responsibility for training and additional portfolios, participate in project teams and committees, and provide advice through written reports to senior management. The position requires travel across the state, which may involve overnight stays. Key Duties Contribute to creating, fostering, and sustaining a positive, safe, and healthy workforce culture built on DJCS values, professional excellence, teamwork, and safe work practices. Prepare and deliver training and assessment packages, emergency procedures, and ensure consistency and integrity of training programs. Coordinate and facilitate a range of state-wide training, in consultation with the Workforce Development Supervisors and other prison stakeholders as required. Develop, regularly review, and update Corrections Victoria training materials to ensure continuous improvement and best practice, as well as effective training outcomes. Oversee the input, maintenance and accuracy of state training records in conjunction with the specialist instructors and SESG State Training team staff. About You Knowledge of Security and Emergency Services Group, Emergency Response Group operations and procedures. Demonstrate agreed fitness standards or the ability to attain a level of fitness that would withstand the demands of any training course and maintenance thereafter. Ability to design and deliver training courses to both Correctional Services personnel and relevant private organisations as required. Computer literate with a working knowledge of the full range of Microsoft Windows and MS Office application suite software. Qualifications / Requirements Hold (or be willing to obtain) HLTAID014 – Provide advanced first aid. A full and current Victorian driver's licence or a minimum P2 driver's licence. Have completed, or be willing to complete, a Prison Officer training course. Have completed or be willing to complete and maintain currency in the TAE IV in Training and Assessment, or as a minimum, the enterprise skill set, or equivalent. Hold (or be willing to obtain) Instructor qualifications to the required standard set out by Corrections Victoria in Tactical Options, Fire Awareness, Formations, Baton, and OC.
