Automation Specialist

Location ACT – Onsite Clearance Must be able to obtain Baseline Duration 12 months + 12‑month extension Experience level EL1 equivalent Hours Up to 40 hours per week Overview A Federal Government agency is seeking a highly skilled Senior Automation and Virtualisation Specialist to join its ICT Operations Branch. The role sits within the Networks & Infrastructure Platforms section and supports core enterprise infrastructure including data centres, virtualisation, storage, automation, and backup capabilities. The successful candidate will contribute to the management and uplift of the organisation’s VMware and Aria platforms, ensuring stable, secure, and scalable environments for departmental staff and ministerial offices. This position also includes documentation responsibilities, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to after‑hours on‑call support. Key Responsibilities Manage and enhance Aria Automation, Aria Orchestrator, Aria Operations, NSX, and Site Recovery Manager. Maintain and optimise VMware vSphere and Cloud Foundation environments. Support server infrastructure across rack‑mounted and blade technologies. Develop high‑quality design documents, build documents, operational support guides, and handover materials. Provide knowledge transfer, coaching, and technical leadership across the team. Collaborate effectively with technical specialists and stakeholders. Qualifications Demonstrated experience in several of the following: VMware vSphere / Cloud Foundation. Strong scripting and coding capability in: Proven ability to produce clear and comprehensive design, build, and operations documentation. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including presenting to stakeholders and mentoring team members. Experience administering Veeam Backup and Replication.
