Chair, Ainsworth Endometriosis Research Institute Employment Type : Full - time (35 hours a week); Associate Professor – Professor (Level D-E) Duration : Chair appointment will be 5 years initially, plus a continuing substantive Professorial appointment Remuneration : $185,917 - $237,784 base depending on experience (plus 17% superannuation and leave loading). Location : UNSW Kensington Campus, Sydney Ainsworth Endometriosis Research Institute The Ainsworth Endometriosis Research Institute (AERI) is a new major initiative supported by philanthropy, commencing in mid-2025 to address global consumer led priorities in Endometriosis research, as articulated in the Australian National Endometriosis Action Plan. AERI is a basic research Institute, centred at UNSW Sydney, with partner organisations at other Australian Universities. The Institute will undertake scientific research that leads to translational changes for all people with endometriosis. This will include programs such as pre-clinical models for endometriosis, drug repurposing and a ‘blue-sky’ program to progress the challenges that endometriosis presents. The ‘5 C’ philosophy of Collaboration, Clinical Care, Community, Coordination and Capacity building drive AERI to ensure a program of research that is progressive, directed and adaptive. The 10-year philanthropic gift that underpins AERI provides the surety for researchers willing to take on challenges for now, and challenges for the future. The Opportunity The Ainsworth Chair of Endometriosis will play a key leadership role in AERI by leading an internationally recognised, innovative and impactful program of translational research focused on endometriosis. The AERI mission of ‘cause and cure’ has been determined by people with endometriosis as the most meaningful outcomes that will change their lives. Changing our fundamental understanding of endometriosis and how it impacts individuals, their families and society can and will be achieved. Suitably qualified applicants may be considered at the time of appointment or a later date for the role of Director of AERI. The Director provides leadership in the development and implementation of the AERI research programs and operations; ensures alignment and integration with the activities and objectives of the broader faculty and its partners; and is responsible for the effective management of research quality, impact and operational best practice in pursuit of strategic objectives set by the Centre, the Faculty’s and University’s new ‘Progress for all’ vision and strategy launched in 2025. Significant track record in endometriosis research leadership, with publications of high quality and high international impact, with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence and deliver research leadership. Demonstrated academic excellence and outstanding contribution to research and scholarship. Demonstrated leadership in building engagement and partnerships with the profession, stakeholders, industry and the broader community. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills. Level E (in addition to the above) Demonstrated excellence in leadership of research projects and research teams. Substantial experience in high quality supervision of higher degree research and undergraduate research students and postdoctoral research staff. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to work and influence across disciplines, faculties, institutions, industry and professional bodies. Evidence of being an inspirational role model for other academics seeking mentoring, guidance, advice and support. Demonstrated capacity to lead by example in supporting equal opportunity and equity, diversity and inclusion policy and programs. Proven leadership in developing effective relationships and engagement with funders, stakeholders, industry and the broader community, with proven experience in attraction of significant research funding in this context.
