Position Overview The Technical Publications Supervisor will oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of Technical Publications compliant with S1000D and equivalent DEF (AUST) Standards. The position will lead and manage a team of technical writers, illustrators, and multimedia specialists to create user‑friendly, interactive documentation for complex systems and equipment. Primary Duties Lead the Technical Publications team, ensuring efficient workflows and high‑quality output. Coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and support teams to gather detailed technical information for documentation in accordance with contractual and customer requirements. Manage the development and delivery of technical publications in compliance with S1000D specifications, including data module development, CSDB management, and BREX rules. Implement and maintain XML‑based processes and tools for structured documentation and publishing. Ensure all publications meet industry compliance standards such as S1000D, DEF(AUST)IPS‑5630, ASD‑STE100, and other Australian defence requirements. Provide guidance and mentorship to team members to develop their technical skills and expertise. Develop project plans, manage resources, and monitor progress to meet deadlines and program objectives. Advocate for continuous improvement in documentation processes and tools to enhance efficiency and quality. Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment conducive to creativity, innovation, and professional growth. Establish and enforce quality assurance processes to review and validate technical content for accuracy, consistency, and usability. Conduct regular audits to identify and address any discrepancies or deficiencies. Develop project plans, manage resources, and monitor and report progress to meet deadlines and program objectives. Manage relationships with external stakeholders, including HDA’s customers, external vendors, subcontractors, and service providers involved in IETP development, ensuring deliverables meet quality and timeline expectations. Contribute to cross‑functional Logistics Support Analysis (LSA) activities such as Maintenance & Operator Task Analysis, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) and Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), including support to Verification and Validation activities. Earned Value Management (EVM) and/ or Work Package Management (WPM) responsibilities, as applicable. Other duties where required and/or requested by your supervisor. Qualifications Mandatory: Tertiary qualification in a relevant field and/or, demonstrated relevant experience in relation to technical publications production and management. Certification in S1000D, such as ASD S1000D Foundation, Practitioner, or Professional level certifications. Experience Extensive ability to lead and manage a team in a technical environment. Extensive in technical writing, content development, or related roles within the aerospace, defence, automotive, or manufacturing industry. Proficiency in XML editors and publishing tools (e.g., EAGLE Publishing System, Oxygen XML Editor). Experience working with compliance tools such as configuration management systems. Skills and Key Attributes Knowledge of Australian defence systems and platforms. Familiarity with additional technical standards, including ASD‑STE100 and MIL‑SPEC documentation requirements. Meticulous approach to work, with the ability to identify potential risks and issues proactively. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to work under tight deadlines without compromising quality. Ability to prioritise task and to delegate them when appropriate. Flexible and adaptable – Ability to quickly pivot and respond to changing priorities and work within a dynamic working environment. Proven ability to effectively manage relationships and positively resolve disputes with internal/external stakeholders. Strong people leader, generating engagement both internally and externally. Ability to manage large teams and complex programmes. To be successful in this role, you will need to be eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security clearance (must be Australian Citizen).
