Aurizon is offering an exciting opportunity to kickstart your career in rail through our Operational Maintainer (Rail Shunter) Traineeship in West Kalgoorlie. As a trainee, you’ll be part of a structured program where you’ll gain practical, hands‑on experience while completing a nationally recognised qualification in rail operations (shunting). You’ll work alongside experienced team members in a fast‑paced environment, developing the skills needed to build a long‑term career with Australia’s largest rail freight operator. What you’ll be doing: Undertaking both classroom and on‑the‑job training Safely loading and unloading customer products Inspecting rollingstock and carrying out minor repairs Performing brake tests on trains Assisting with shunting and marshalling operations Communicating effectively with depot personnel via radio and in person About you: We’re looking for individuals with: C Class Drivers Licence (mandatory) A strong commitment to safety Mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills Flexibility to work day and night shifts (up to 12 hours), including weekends Please note that all applicants will be required to undergo psychometric testing, a drug and alcohol test and carry out a criminal history check What we offer you: At Aurizon, we support the development and growth of our employees.
