Position Title: Visiting Medical Officer - Psychiatry - Forensic Hospital - Sessional (Flexible Options Available)

PLEASE NOTE : Multiple vacancies are available and flexible. We are considering candidates interested in 2 to 8 sessions a week. Minimum 3-month to maximum 6-month contracts will be offered.

An exciting opportunity is available for a Visiting Medical Officer – Psychiatry to join our service at the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (JHFMHN).

We are looking for a qualified health care professional with:

  • Current registration with Medical Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
  • Eligibility for OR current Fellowship with the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

The Visiting Medical Officer – Psychiatry provides specialist assessment and ongoing care of patients with psychiatric disorders in correctional campuses and/or forensic settings administered by JHFMHN in accordance with best evidence-based practice and organisational policies. No on-call rostering or call-backs outside of business hours are required. Call-backs during business hours are required on occasion.

Our Location

The Forensic Hospital is a high-secure forensic mental health facility that provides specialist, therapeutic inpatient care for adults and adolescent forensic, correctional, and high-risk civil patients. A multidisciplinary team of medical, nursing, and allied health professionals provide care across the clinical spectrum, from high dependency and acute care, to long stay and rehabilitation care.
